Deviance had increased too high for society to accept. Instead of addressing the problems and changing behavior, deviant behavior became redefined: previously unaccepted behavior becoming normalized (homo). Why do ppl commit crimes? Deviant is not criminal. Interactionists say it’s context and how society defines behavior. That is often being redefined in our day. For instance, ppl on welfare are increasingly being considered illegitimate claimants before they were legitimate. LEFT REALISM: criminal subcultures in inner cities.
